Be consistent.

The best way to help your student succeed in 4th grade is to be consistent with home expectations. I do my best to be sure I am creating a safe and respectful environment that is full of consistency, so students know what to expect. I have high expectations, but know each student has the ability to succeed if they work hard and stay positive. I believe we are a team- teacher — student — family. If we all do our part, we will be able to support the student to show optimal growth in 4th grade!

When we know what to expect, we can ease that sense of fight or flight, feel happiness and success, AND be more open to learning!

Don’t worry! You are not alone! The most frequent questions I get from parents are around the math strategies that we do in the classroom. Many parents describe it as, “not the way I learned how to do this and I think I confused my child more!”

YouTube is actually a great resource for help! In the search bar, try to be as specific as possible by including the grade level, topic, and strategy. For example, don’t just search “division”. Instead, search “4th grade division super 7 method.”

Hi, I’m Miss O

My name is Miss O’Shanecy and I have been teaching elementary school since 2010. I love to try and incorporate projects in the classroom where students collaborate with each other and have a chance to problem solve and persevere through stuck points. I also believe that all students have their own strengths and the classroom is a great place to explore whatever interests them!
